Pernisia and Rowan--The Moonwolves

By Poem Girl

“EEEEK!” I screamed clutching at Rowans arm she scraped me off and pulled out her dagger and her emerald violet stone she closed her eyes and whispered something like “I need a sword.” All at once the dagger grew longer glowing in a familiar way.

“What is this world?” I muttered frozen in fear. “She’s Samwise Gamgee and has sting to fight the evil Shelob? Who’s Frodo then?” I hoped it wasn’t me I had no interest in being taken by orks.

“Make yourself useful!” Rowan urged but I couldn’t move, my legs had turned to jelly.

“You help her Caleb!” I screamed at his unconscious form, pulling at my unmoving legs. He instantly woke up and darted forward with blinding speed I could see he was scared too but as least he could act. I frowned at myself for being so wimpy staring ahead and watching me brother distract “Shelob” while Rowan approached it from behind however it’s blank eyes seemed despite my brother to bore into me and it ignored him pursuing me with maddening speed. I whimpered pitifully hoping my death would be quick; but then it stopped and I saw Rowan flying through the air and land with a thud right on top of the terrible thing and with one lunge the beast was dead it uttered a blood curdling noise and dropped to the ground a dark black liquid oozing from it’s wound.

“Thank goodness.” I murmured falling to me knees.

“Tha…thank you Rowan.” I said my voice still quivering. Caleb rushed up and nodded at her.

She grinned. “Thanks for the lift but I hope you won’t have to offer it again.”

Awe I saw it now Caleb must have launched her.

“Do me a favor will ya.” Caleb said softly to me. “Stay out of trouble when I’m not around to help you even if you have Rowan, she’s not related to you.

I smiled and nodded shakily rising to my feet. “Next time maybe I’ll be able to defend myself.”

“That’s the spirit!” Rowan laughed thumping me on the back.

I winced, she had quite the arm.

But the happy reunion did not go for long; a howl sounded in the distance.

Rowan
By Me

"Oh, stink," I muttered.

"What's the problem?" Caleb demanded, his eyes flickering around nervously.

I glared at him. "It's Moonwolves, that's what. They're vicious and evil, though they're strongest on the night of the Blue Moon."

Pernisia's eyes bulged out. "BLUE MOON?!"

"You don't have to freak..." I started to say.

"THAT'S AWESOME!" she shrieked. "I've always wanted to see a Blue Moon!"

I frowned, bewildered. "What? But that's when all evil things are strongest."

She looked horrified. "What?! But in stories, Blue Moons are always so...... awesome," she finished lamely.

"Apparently not here," snorted Caleb.

Pernisia glared and then picked up a large stick that was more like a pole than a stick.

"What's that for?" Caleb demanded, his eyes watching his sister as she started to stomp off through the woods.

She turned around with a fierce glare. "What do you think it is?! Something to fend off the Moonwolves with!"

I smiled approvingly. "Good idea, Pernisia." I glared at Caleb. "Grab a stick." Then I picked up a pole myself and followed Pernisia through the forest.

"I can't believe it," Caleb muttered, picking up a stick and following. "My sister--my sister--is leading an expedition through a magical forest when we could all very well be killed!"

"Shh!" I warned.

Pernisia stopped and I came up beside her.

"I don't know where we're supposed to go," she admitted.

"Follow me," I whispered.

I led them through the trees, sticking to the shadows. I was learned in the art of hunting, but Pernisia and Caleb weren't. As a result, while I was quietly making my way through the forest, they kept on stepping on sticks and pinecones and practically alerting the whole forest to our presence.

That's about the time when I turned around the side of the tree and saw myself face-to-face with a Moonwolf...

I just can't wait...

Excitement's overtaking your body. Every muscle is tense. You're wondering if maybe you're going to puke, but then you just tell yourself to relax. You make yourself move around the props settled on the floor and stand where you're supposed to be, ready, waiting. There's a squeak as the curtains slowly start to draw away. You look out. There's people out there; lots of people. And they're all looking intently at you. Your lips start trembling as you begin to speak, saying the words that you've memorized by heart. By the time you're almost done, you've given the cue for somebody else to come and join you in the spotlight. And then there's finally the time to escape behind the back curtain. But it's far from over. You know you'll have to go out again. But at least you survived the beginning.

I've been in tons of plays, and I'm not joking. My parents always made us do stuff like plays so that we wouldn't be so scared in front of people. (I'm naturally shy....) And now? I love acting, love it with all of my heart. I see an actor doing a scene in a movie and all I'm thinking is, "Could I do that? Could I make those emotions go across my voice? Make my lip quiver? Make my voice sound like that?" Sometimes I even test it out in my room.

And, usually, I find out I can do it, too.

I'm so excited. A week from today, I'm going to be trying out for another play--the first in what seems like forever. Actually, since like the beginning of last year. (*horrified silence*) I'm sooo excited. Not only am I going to be doing something that I absolutely love, but I'm going to be doing it with some of my favorite people!! :)

I'm super psyched.

I. AM. SO. EXCITED.

I'm just hoping that I don't get sick or something. But this is a big thing for me. I love it. I'm not really sure WHY I love it. Maybe it's because I'm pretty good at acting and memorizing, it's fun to be around the awesome people, you get cool costumes, and then at the end of the week you get to show everybody all of the hard work that you've been doing.

I don't know. There's just something that draws me to it.

Please pray that I'll be able to bless others through that week, whether I'm in the play or not, and that I'll serve Him in everything that I do. :)

And, by the way, Britt, I got your personalized story already started. :) I'm really hoping that you'll like it!! I'll post it [on one of my blogs] as soon as I get it done, OK? :)

Later gator.

Over and out. ;)

A chapter in which Wyn gets told she needs a bow

And, at that moment, I realized that I might never see Walt again. There were a million things that could go wrong--Sir William could realize that I was a girl, and Lady Wyn no less; I could be killed; and a million other things. I shook my head. I couldn't think about them.

Right now I had to remember that the hardest part of my plan was still to come...

* * *

"Walt," I hissed.

"What?" he frowned.

"I'm glad you're my friend," I whispered. "I hope I get back alive." Then I ducked out from behind the tent and ran towards the stables.

Even as I ran I wished I'd waited for my friend's reply.

I could just see Sir William, yelling at one of the stablehands that his horse "had better be shining by the time I ride out!" I quickly sent a prayer that he wouldn't realize that I was Lady Wyn and rushed forward right in front of him.

"Sir William! Sir William!" I cried, pretending to be breathless.

"What's the matter?" he demanded, stopping.

"Your page... he's missing...." I pretended like I'd been running for forever and just couldn't catch my breath. I was hoping he'd think that I'd been searching around for him.

He muttered something under his breath and then looked me up and down. "You're fit enough looking. You'll have to go in his place."

Thank you, Sir William!

"I'm honored, Sir William," I told him. "I have my sword..."

"Well, you're fit, but I didn't say you were large," he snorted. "Ah, yes, a relic. Go and talk to Sir Jeremy's page. He's down in the armory. He'll equip you with a bow and start giving you lessons. We're moving out today, but he'll still be able to teach you on the way."

This was not going like planned.

"I don't need lessons," I lied.

"Well, get them anyway," he barked. "And don't bother me. I'm busy."

It's all for Ellen, I reminded myself, biting my tongue and walked towards the castle. The armory, as I was directed by a guard, was by the dungeons. Lovely. You just have to find Lochinvar, and then you can ship out of the Middle East. Shouldn't be too hard. Isn't Lochinvar always saying that his horse is the fastest there is?

I went through the hallway, past the ladies and mistresses of the castle and the servants and peasants running around. My boots didn't make a noise on the stones as I walked down a stairway, past the kitchen, and through another hallway. I almost got lost but another guard directed me in the right direction for the armory.

"Here goes nothing," I snorted, pushing open the door.

Oh, stink.

Pernisia and Rowan--The Ornoch

Great thanks to Poem Girl. You go, girl!! :) Go and click the link to go to her blog, simply because she's awesome!! :) Pernisia chapters by her, Rowan chapters by me. :)

“Wait...Oh, never mind you could have at least given me time to think.”

“What’s there to think about we needed to get through the door so we went through.”

“Yeah but I’d have liked to prepare myself, you know I didn’t exactly run straight through the first time I saw an emotion door.”

“Yeah but you did the second time.” Rowan pointed out.

“That’s not the point!” I yelled frustrated “But never mind.”

“Okay then, we should probably start moving I’ve learned if you stay in one place to long bad things usually happen.”

“That’s not….” I began, Rowan glared at me. “Sorry, lead the way.”

She nodded. “Thank you.”

She started forward and I obediently followed not really knowing what else to do. “Why exactly did I need to be here anyways?” I said aloud. “I mean, clearly I’m not much use.”

“You stay because you are…can we have some peace and quiet here.”

“Sorr…” I drew in my breath “No more apologies I’ve already done that too many times.”

“Sure.” Rowan answered in voice like she clearly didn’t care.

Caleb fell in to pace with me. “So I bet you’re wondering how I knew about the door right?”

“Not really.” I lied, I didn’t want to encourage him.

“Cause it’s an interesting story.” He began again.

“Uh huh, not interested.” I spoke calmly trying to push down that curiosity tinge that sometimes came into my voice when I was interested.

He called ahead to Rowan, “Hey do you want to here how I knew about the Emotion Door.”

“Yes.”

“That’s right an….what did you say!” I shouted surprised at her response.

“I said yes I’d like to hear.” She turned and looked at him. “Everything; but not right now.”

She glanced hastily around. I groaned. “I know that look. Caleb, get ready to run.”

“No wait.” Caleb held out his hand in front of me.

“Caleb, Rowan’s going….”

“Don’t! Just stay right here don’t move.” He commanded. This wasn’t like him?”

“Caleb?”

“Shush!”

I humphed and plopped myself on the ground crossing my arms; something was seriously wrong here.

Rowan

"Let's go," I urged.

"Wait, why on earth would you want to listen to my brother?" Pernisia demanded.

I rolled my eyes. "You guys can't just know about my world. You obviously didn't. So there has to be something up."

"Are you saying I'm a bad guy?!" Caleb demanded.

I glared. "I don't know what you are, but we're out of time." I grabbed Pernisia's hand and Caleb's arm and jumped through the door.

********************************

"EEK!"

My eyes flipped open and I jumped to my feet. The forest floor felt good underneath my feet as I sprinted towards Pernisia. She was faced with a huge Ornoch spider, which was about as big as cottage. Her eyes were wide in fear. I glanced over my shoulder. Caleb was still unconscious on the ground.

"Pernisia," I said calmly. "Back away slowly."

"But... but it's going to eat me!" she squeaked nervously.

"Just do it," I commanded. "Now!"

Slowly, Pernisia started backing up. The spider stared at her with its big milky eyes. I knew like everybody who'd ever lived in the forest that Ornoch spiders are blind, and, like rattle snakes, they rely on vibrations from the ground to kill their victims. As long as Pernisia didn't start running--creating a steady thump--I was pretty sure she was going to be alright.

"Rowan, what's..." Before Caleb could say anything else, I smacked my hand over his mouth. He glared at me, and then looked horrified when he saw the Ornoch.

Pernisia was still backing away. Now she was only a few feet away from me. Slowly, I grabbed her arm.

Wrong move.

She screamed, and jumped in fright.

The spider rushed at us with amazing speed.

Oh, stink.

AS--Damien?!

I took off running through the forest.

"Hey, where're you going?" Seb yelled after him.

"To save my friend!" I shouted back.

I just hoped that I wasn't too late.

* * *
I raced off through the forest. Damien, why do you have to be so stupid?! I thought angrily to myself as I charged through the underbrush.

If that old brownie, Seb, was right, then Damien had just been kidnapped by a horribly dangerous pirate. Not only that, but his father had gone and gotten himself kidnapped by the pirates in the ship. Why did I have to be the one to rescue them?! Well, maybe because you signed yourself up to help look for the princess and the locket.

"Damien, you're going to be sorry," I muttered.

"Help...!"

I froze, bow at the ready. It'd been faint, but I'd heard it. I was pretty much positive that it was Damien. I took off running in the direction of the yell.

It led me even deeper into the forest. There was no sunlight here. Only darkness. The trees surrounded me, and I pushed down that nervous feeling in my stomach. My eyes scanned ahead. And that's when I saw it.

"Damien!" I yelled angrily. "How'd you get yourself stuck in an animal trap?!"

Damien was hanging high above the forest floor in a net made of old vines and was glaring down at me indignantly.

"Aren't you going to let me down?!" he yelled.

I smiled. "Maybe. Maybe."

That's when I got my idea...
