Twilight's Last Night--Chapter 4

Chapter Four

"So, what's the play that you're doing?" Farren asked as we walked out of the high school.

"Romeo and Juliet," I admitted.

She gagged. "A romance?"

I glared. "Yeah. A romance." I laughed at the horrified look on her face. "Relax. It's not like they're having us do stage kisses in high school!"

"Thank goodness," she groaned.

"You're note even the one in the play," I pointed out, pushing my glasses up my nose.

"But you're in it," she pointed right back. "By the way.... did you see the new girl?"

"New girl?" I stopped.

"Yeah," Farren nodded. She pointed across the hallway where an African American girl was struggling with her books. "That's her.  I think her name's something like Erin, err, something."

I was feeling shy. I usually did. I glanced over at Farren. "So have you talked to her yet?"

Farren fidgeted. Yes, Farren. I didn't think I'd ever see her scared in her entire life. She looked down at her feet.

I snorted. "What's the matter?"

"Well, you know..." she trailed off.

"Come on, let's go meet her," I urged.

Farren grabbed my arm and burst out, "Kaylie-said-that-if-I-talked-to-her-that-I-couldn't-come-to-the-awesome-bash-party-that-they're-having-next-week-and--"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." I held up my hands. "Slow down. Kaylie said what?"

Kaylie was the captain of almost all of the high school girls' sports teams, even though Farren was a better player. Farren looked up to Kaylie like she was the queen of sports or something.

Farren sighed, pushing her blonde hair behind her ear. "Kaylie said I couldn't come to her bash party if I talked to her."

"Why ever not?" I wondered. "Don't be mean." Then I walked off towards the girl.

"Katrina, wait..."

But I didn't wait.
