A chapter in which Wyn fails at acting like a guy

I went through the hallway, past the ladies and mistresses of the castle and the servants and peasants running around. My boots didn't make a noise on the stones as I walked down a stairway, past the kitchen, and through another hallway. I almost got lost but another guard directed me in the right direction for the armory.

"Here goes nothing," I snorted, pushing open the door.

Oh, stink.

I was faced by a guy who looked like he thought he was just like the bomb. I glared and then quickly reminded myself that I was supposed to be some kind of page, not the sassy Lady Wyn.

"Um, sir?" I managed. I hoped that it sounded pagey enough.

He glanced over at me, his blonde hair flopping dramatically. Oh, please. Yuck. Get a hair cut, dude!! "Yes?" he droned.

"I... uh... I'm supposed to get lessons... err, something, in bow?" I finished with a squeak.

He snorted with rude laughter. "What you need, my friend, in a lesson in how to be manly. Even I can see that you're a little wimp whose father decided he needed to become a knight, because otherwise he'd grow up to be a wimp, which is what you already are."

I glared at him and put my hands on my hips. "Look, mister...!"

"Oh, and I suppose you learned that from your mother?" He laughed rudely again. "Such a sissy."

"Just show me how to use a bow, and then I'm out of here," I hissed.

"Ooh, a spitfire." He rolled his eyes. "Fine. I'll show you. But you'd better learn fast."

It was then that the trumpets blared.

  1. Haha! I can't imagine even *trying* to act like a guy..... that would freak me out. I don't know how Wyn wasn't scared to death that she'd be discovered :)
